Jean ALLAN was the first child of Andrew ALLAN
and Sibbilla RICHARDSON. She was married to a Land
Steward - William FOGGO in 1812 in Melrose,
Roxburghshire,and lived in Bowden,Roxburghshire for
about 5 years before moving back to William FOGGO's
district. The family of 5 grew up and lived at
Dunkeld, Perthshire. There were several children
who died young. By at least 1836, JEAN FOGGO now a
widow and her children were living in Bankfoot,
Perthshire. A cousin writing to Andrew ALLAN in the
highlands states that the family ran an inn to
which some 50 or 60 acres were attached. This being
the inn mentioned as funded for the FOGGO's. It was
on the then main highway and attracted much custom.
Little else is known of the family. Children
Ann,Margaret and David are mentioned in the 1851
census for Bankfoot. William FOGGO was a rate
collecter for H.M. Customs, Southampton. A tomb in
Tibbermore Churchyard , Perthshire details the
deaths of Jean and William FOGGO,several children
and William's parents.
