*** FAMILY HISTORY
***
|
|
Alison ALLAN was the first child of David
ALLAN and Janet RENWICK. She apparently kept in
touch with her Uncle Andrew ALLAN who emigrated to
Victoria, Australia. Alison was an avid writer. She
kept a family scrapbook which had newspaper
cuttings which included Allan obituaries from
Australia sent back to Scotland. Alison married an
"enterprising and successful" farmer James ELLIOT
in 1869 at East Mains, Gordon. James' brother
William ELLIOT had married Alison's aunt Elizabeth
RENWICK, making the families twice related. The
father of these two Elliots was Walter ELLIOT, a
dealer. He was known to the ALLAN family, in fact
John ALLAN (1816-1897) was a herd at one of his
farms near Peebles in 1838. James farmed at
Lauderdale Estate, and from 1895-1901 farmed at
"Duncrahill", East Lothian. Some of the children
emigrated to Canada and New Zealand. Some of this
family has kept in touch with the FRENCH-WRIGHTS
who were descended from Alison's younger brother
Andrew ALLAN (who also emigrated to New Zealand).
