Isabella's Parents were - THOMAS OUTERSON ( A
Forester )and JANE KINGHORN
Richard ALLAN was the eldest of two sons to
Richard ALLAN and Margaret SELBY. He is described
as a "farm servant" or "farm worker".Richard worked
at "Butterlaw" and "Simprim" , both in Swinton
Parish,Berwickshire. Richard married Isabella
UTTERSON at "Simprim" farm in 1906. He often wrote
to his brother James ALLAN and his nephew George
ALLAN who both were in Newcastle, England. Richard
ALLAN and his wife lived at Bridgend in Swinton
Parish, and then Oxnam Row in Oxnam Parish,
Roxburghshire. They had 2 children, and another who
died in infancy. Neither child married. In 1923
Isabella UTTERSON died at Gateshaw Farm,Morebattle
Par, Roxburghshire. At this stage Richard ALLAN is
described as a ploughman. Finally in 1945, Richard
ALLAN died at "Under Hindhope",Oxnam Parish,
Roxburghshire. The two children now grown remained
at "Under Hindhope" farm until at least 1966 when
Jane ALLAN died of poisoning. Richard ALLAN the son
continued as a farmer, and died in Jedburgh aged
65. His cousins on his mother's side the SMITHs of
Cessford ,Kelso (1995) were close friends all his
life and have the best knowledge of Richard ALLAN.
