 Janet Elliot ALLAN (Nettie) was born in 1893, the 3rd child of John ALLAN and Helen JACKSON. She and her younger brother were born at Haliburton Farm, Greenlaw, where her great grandfather Richard ALLAN had farmed in 1805 - C.1820. She married William THORBURN in 1928 at Eccles, and had two children born at Greenlaw.They later farmed at "Melingdean", Kelso, Roxburghshire. She was later widowed, and went to live with her daughter Helen THORBURN in Greenlaw, dying in 1980 aged 87. Her daughter Helen never married. Her son John THORBURN for a while was a factory manager in England. He married at Carlisle, England in 1955, and brought up 3 children, all born in Whitehaven, England. He later moved to Tobermory, Mull in Scotland's west where they run a youth hostel. His own daughter Fiona married and moved to Inverness.
