The 3rd child of Alex ALLAN and Mary
McKINNON, Jack ALLAN was always going to be on the
farm at Mardan South. He and his brother Richard
had the task of milking the cows twice each day.
The task of clearing and grassing the bracken fern
on a recently acquired mortgage of 94 acres was
allotted to these two as well. By the age of about
15 he finished school, and came to work with his
father on the farm. Next June his father died, and
by the end of the year, his younger brother joined
him on the farm. Life was hard, especially during
the great depression of the 1930's. There was
tennis and football played on the ALLAN's property
each week for several years, and there were always
visitors for meals at the main house. Jack married
Irma HOBSON in 1939, and brought up a family of 5.
By 1952 Jack's health started to fail, and for the
next 6 years he was hampered by illness.The working
partnership with his brother Richard began to be
dissolved, and in 1958, Jack ALLAN died and son
Barrie ALLAN took his father's farm. A wall clock
in the Mardan hall donated by the ALLAN family
serves as a reminder of him. Of his other children
- Geoffrey went to Florida and was married with 2
daughters, Wendy was a nurse and married with 3
sons, David a ceramic tile salesman in nearby
Korumburra married and had one direct female issue,
Janet married and had 2 sons.
