Geoffrey ALLAN was born to Jack & Irma ALLAN
in Kew, Victoria in 1942 and lived with his parents
on the family farm until he was 15 years old. He
then attended the Post Master General's Technician
Training School in Melbourne for 5 years. In his
final year he assisted with the installation of the
Mt. Tassie, near Traralgon, National Television
Transmitters remaining there for the next 4 years.
From 1964-1969 he worked as a Technician at the
GLV10 Studios in Traralgon. In 1968-69 he was
awarded a Rotary Scholarship to study Color
Television in Milwaukie, Wisconsin, U.S.A.
During that time he met, and married, Raquel
Jiminez who was working for The Rotary Foundation
in Chicago. Raquel was born in Havana, CUBA and
migrated to the US as a part of the "Pedro Pan"
Children's resettlement program of the Catholic
Church.
After their marriage they returned to Australia
and lived in Noble Park and Fern Tree Gully
(suburbs of Melbourne) where their daughters were
born. Raquel worked at several Secretarial
positions and set up her own business. Geoffrey
worked as a Sound Technician at ATVO Studios in
Nunawading.
They moved to Florida in 1979 where Geoffrey
wqrked as a Technician and then an Engineer for
Racal-Milgo and Racal-Datacom for the next 22
years. Raquel has had several Office positions at
Florida International University and is currently
an Office Manager at FIU.
Geoffrey currently works as a Network Manager
for Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Dept. having
responsibility for the SCADA plant control systems.
