Chris Allan was the first of two children of
Alexander Ronald Allan and Lynette Jean Burge. Born
in Leongatha, he and his sister Kerri Allan
attended Mardan South Primary School and Leongatha
High School. He lived on the Allan farm at Mardan
south until he was 17 years old. He participated in
local activities such as the Mardan Scout troop and
the Mardan Tennis Club. Not particularly interested
in dairy farming, he later saw his father Alex
Allan's farm sold off in 1989 to Barrie Allan and
neighbour Sam Nicita. The Allan house (1938-1989)
was thereafter expanded immensely by new owners
into an absolute mess, unaffordable by farming
residents, and re-sold within a few years at a loss
by the new owner. As of 2000, it was owned by two
elderly ladies with an unhealthy appetite for
keeping many dogs inside the house!! In 1987 Chris
started as a Batch Clerk for the national Australia
bank in Leongatha, moving to Wonthaggi three months
later whilst still only 17. In Jan 1988 he joined
the Victoria Police Force as a constable, working
at Russell St, and Malvern stations. He travelled
overseas several times, including a few trips to
Scotland to unearthed the Allan family history
preserved in this family tree. Chris was always
interested in the Allan history, and met many
Allans both in Australia and overseas. He was
particularly close to Frances Allan and Isabel
Milner who both lived into their 90's. He also met
Alison Allan of Ballarat, who gave him many of the
family letters that had been kept over the many
years by the Allans at Newlyn/Scrub Hill. In 1993
he moved to Brisbane, Queensland, and a year later
joined the QLD Police Service as a constable.
Whilst in the Police service he married Anne
Michelle Salzman in 1996, and in 1997 moved to
Karana Downs near Ipswich. He left the QLD Police
Service, and after a three year accountancy course,
resumed work at Main Roads as a Financial
Accountant. Their first son died aged 3 days from a
heart defect. They moved to Jindalee in 2003.
